Toast 1.1 - Update

toast1a

Bugs can run, but they can't hide. Earlier today we had a report of some strange happenings related to the RWmultitool headers in our Toast theme. We hunted down the little bug and squashed it dead. We are currently sending out the update to everyone who has purchased Toast.

This update for Toast fixes a small bug in the RWMultiTool headers section where RWMultiTool headers 2-5 were not displaying correctly. This is due to a small typo in the theme.plist file. If you are not using or do not ever plan to use RWMultiTool with Toast this update is not necessary.

To upgrade from the previous version of Toast you will need to delete your old version before installing the new version. After deleting the previous version follow the installation instructions that come in the theme's ReadMe file to install the new version.

Please be aware that updating Toast with the new version will undo any modifications you've made to the theme and delete any custom headers you've already created. So please be sure to back up all of your data or modifications, if you've made any, before updating the theme.

If you have any questions just drop us a line via the contact form and we will get back to you as soon as humanly possible.

Growing custom stuff

gf

Todd Albertson
commissioned us recently to create both a logo and a custom RapidWeaver theme for God Farm, one of his many projects. We csutomized one of our stock themes to meet his needs to go with the newly designed custom logo.

Stop by God Farm and have a look or here to see a screen grab.

Feed me

rssblocksml

In setting up an RSS feed for a client's site last night I discovered a great little site that allows you to place an RSS feed on a page through a bit of Javascript.

I was quite impressed with it and thought it would be a great tool for other RapidWeaver users. So I built a block for YourHead's Blocks plug-in that allows you to easily insert an RSS feed on your own Blocks page.

Drop the elixir RSS feed Block onto your page and input your feed URL into the Smart Block window and you're done. There are a few options included in the Smart Info window to help you in customizing your links and such.

Once you've downloaded it, drag it onto your Blocks page and it will be automatically installed into your Blocks Library.

Best of all, it is a free Block and a free service.

Upgrade update

We are still in the process of updating all of our themes to be fully compatible with RapidWeaver 3.6. Just to keep everyone updated, we have updated Chameleon, Ribbon and Cloud thus far. We have become a little busy with some custom projects in the past couple of weeks, but will soon be back to updating all of our themes, as well as finishing up our next theme release and preparing the product information pages and such.

If you have bought one of our themes, and are waiting on an upgrade, please be patient as we have some more to be released in the coming weeks.

Safari 3

safari

Monday brought a great announcement for web surfers on both the Mac and the PC. Apple presented their latest version of their standards compliant browser, Safari, to the public at their annual Worldwide Developers Conference. The new version is not only for the Mac, but is also a Windows application now.

Instead of waiting until the October release of Leopard Apple decided to release Safari 3 as a public beta. Shortly after the release a slew of reports cropped up all across the web about vulnerabilities in this new version, specifically on the Windows platform. People seem shocked and outraged at this. I suppose they do not understand what a beta is. So, let us define what beta software truly is, as defined by Wikipedia

A beta version is the first version released outside the organization or community that develops the software, for the purpose of evaluation or real-world testing... Beta version software is likely to be useful for internal demonstrations and previews to select customers, but unstable and not yet ready for release... Often this stage begins when the developers announce a feature freeze on the product, indicating that no more feature requirements will be accepted for this version of the product. Only software issues, or bugs and unimplemented features will be addressed.... Developers release either a closed beta or an open beta; closed beta versions are released to a select group of individuals for a user test, while open betas are to a larger community group, usually the general public. The testers report any bugs that they found and sometimes minor features they would like to see in the final version.

To me it seems like this public beta of Safari on both the Mac and the PC are doing exactly what they were designed to do. They have identified a number of vulnerabilities and bugs that need to be addressed and eliminated before the final release in October. Many people see the term beta on software nowadays and feel that this is a branding that signifies completion. This is the furthest thing from the truth. A beta is just a step in the long process of development. One in which the developer, in this case Apple, asks their users to try to break things and discover faults so that they can make sure their product if bug free by its final release.

So for those complaining of faults, bugs, vulerabilities, etc in this beta version of Safari — Stop it. Just report the bugs to Apple and stop the whining. If you don't want to deal with bugs then don't download beta software.

Ribbon upgrade

ribbonicon

Our upgrade for Ribbon has now been sent out to all current owners of the theme. This upgrade adds in the new RapidWeaver 3.6 features. The only thing that did not make it into this upgrade is the new color picker. We have included a series of Blocks library items as well as styling for RapidBlog built into the theme.

Updates have been sent out via e-junkie to all of the Ribbon owners. If you have purchased Ribbon in the past and do not receive an updated download link, please drop us an e-mail via the contact form on our site

and we will get back to you as soon as possible. If requesting an updated download link for the upgrade please cut and paste your original e-junkie e-mail into the contact for message as well. This will make the process much quicker. If you have any questions, let us know, we're glad to help out.

Update:
In upgrading Ribbon we encountered a small bug in the matter of font rendering when it comes to characters in your site such as smart quotes. We tweaked this and squashed that nasty little bug.

You can re-download Ribbon from the same link you were sent earlier today/yesterday, depending on your timezone. If you have questions or comments please feel free to drop me a message via our contact form.

Bug squashing

I have been informed by Ben or Realmac Software that the problem that many of our Chameleon users have been facing was actually a bug in the initial release of RapidWeaver 3.6. This is good news in that you should only need to install the new RapidWeaver 3.6.1 upgrade to get things working. You should not need a new version of Chameleon to solve the problem.

You can get the upgrade two ways:
• From within RapidWeaver simply go to the menu item labeled 'RapidWeaver' and from there select 'Check for updates...' and follow the prompts.
• Go to the Realmac Software site and download and install the upgrade manually as you did when installing your original version of RapidWeaver.

If you have further problems with Chameleon, or any of our theme upgrades yet to be released, please let us know via our contact form.

Chameleon upgrade

As some of you might know, we recently sent out an upgrade for our Chameleon theme. The upgrade not only includes the addition of the latest RapidWeaver 3.6 theme styles and color picker options, but it also adds RapidBlog stylings, Blocks 3 library blocks and support for RWmultitool.

This upgrade was sent out to all Chameleon owners via e-mail.

Unfortunately we've run into a couple of bugs in the upgrade, which we're working on addressing and correcting. One is with theme styles and the color picker. We are in the process of working with Realmac Software to clear this one up.

The other bug is actually a simple one that we have cleared up. I mistakenly used the beta version of Blocks in constructing our library item blocks. These are not compatible with the final version of Blocks. We will be offering these blocks for download below. If you'd like to use one of these blocks, or all of them, in a project, drag the one you want to use into your Blocks page. It will then be added to your Blocks library for future use as well.

If we need to send out an bug fix for the upgrade to 3.6 we will include these new, correct blocks in the the final version of Chameleon.

If you have any questions, please drop us an e-mail via the contact form and I will get back to you as soon as humanly possible.
